I can't say I was invited exactly, but I got up to find a text message on my mobile phone from a 'sister' asking me if I was going and if so did I need a lift there. Then while out shopping I saw an other who asked me if I was going. Got home and soon had voice mail from an elder. I called him back and he said, blah blah, you know I'm sure that its the memorial on Thursday.I told the last two the same thing; I always thought it was strange people only going to the memorial, like people who only go to church for Christmas. that I had thought about it a lot and that it would be insincere of me to go so no ,I would not be there. He just said ok right in a thoughtful, concerned kind of way.I suppose that's it, we'll see.

The Watchtower's "N" word.
by Lee Elder inthere is no word in watchtower speak (theocratise) that carries more emotional charge than apostate.
to be labeled an apostate is the lowest low worst than pond scum.
in jw thinking, there is more hope for a pedophile or a murderer than for an apostate.

Farkel: in the local dialect here (North Scotland) Dubs means mud or poo, generally stuck to the bottom of a welly boot! even better!

Bryant Memorial Service Report
by seven006 init is hard for me to transcibe certain feelings into written words especially since i'm not what you would consider to be a real emotional person.
i have also mastered the art of rarely showing any outward emotional expression.
i will try and do my best to give you some of the feelings i experienced today through my eyes, so please bare with me.. i drove the hour to mcminnville which is a small town about forty miles south of portland.

Memorial Scrabbling
by Demitrius inwell they are scabbling around to find as many people to attend the memorial again this year.. i walked out 3.5 years ago and have not heard anything since from the elders.
i have one that lives about 50 metres away and he is one that has not even telephoned me in all that time.
.. just the other night he turns up on my door step and hands me the usual invite!

memorial season
by sleepy inwell memorial season is upon us again.
(the witnesses like to think of one day as a season).
the jehovahs witnesses have by and large bypassed crazy ceremonies, but something that started off as almost sane has turned to the bizarre.. on the 28 march around the world groups of witnesses will be passing a glass of red wine , and a plate of unlevened bread amongst each and every person in attendance .if you are lucky, you may spot a witness nervously sip the wine and nibble the bread, but most likely the wine and bread will be left untouched.. what a crazy thing to do.. does the bead and wine really need to be passed between all people present (sometimes numbering into the hundreds) when the witness belief is that only 1444,00 have ever been able to partake?.

NO I still haven't had an invite, though I have spoken to 2 'sisters' lately and had two phone messages. I definately would not want to go now.
OZZIE, I think you have some very interesting things to say on the subject. I have worried about rejecting Christ's blood. -

Who remembers Cake Nights?
by 2SYN in<fluff> .
at the book studies?
they were the highlight of the month.. thing is, all the sisters would try to outdo each other making nice food, which amused me no end, and also kept my stomach filled up, but drove me nuts, because my mother would spend the entire afternoon making a giant racket in the kitchen and screaming @ my sister whilst doing it, just to bake a cool cake for the book study.. also, remember those last ~15 minutes before the end of cake night book studies?

No such thing here. Once in a while a cup of tea would be offered but it was often resented by many and I always had to bum lifts with people so it depended on whether they wanted to stay or not. Also on at least one occasion I was sent home with a young bro. because some of the others were having a private drinky-poo. I found out I was not invited to quite a lot of do's because I was the only one in the 'truth' in my family. OUr cong was told from the platform by the CO, or the DO I can't remember, that we had a lot of love but we just didn,t spread it around, like the lack of cake.

Pet Peeves
by patio34 inanyone have any pet peeves they'd like to air?
here's one that just happened at work that is an annoyance for me: when you are speaking and the person interrupts the conversation with a corny play on words or the like.
for example, "i had to sit on the phone on hold for about 5 minutes, waiting .

Eating meat in Paradise?
by meat pie inyou know there's always the belief that 'we won't eat meat in paradise because that's not what god originally intended?
' normally pictures of food in the mags are huge bowls or baskets of fruit and veg, well i noticed watchtower march 1 2002 page 15 has a photo of what appears to be a nice meaty curry or similar.
then i noticed awake february 22 2002, pages 8 and 9 'under god's kingdom, people will enjoy work that is both safe and rewarding'.

There are some cows, now we are farmers and I know that with cows you either eat them or their children and if you want their milk you generally have to kill their calves or take them away while still very young. So what's that all about?
